New York, N.Y., United States (4E) – Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway took a new 10-million share stake in automaker General Motors in the first quarter of 2012.

The Buffett investment comes as the Detroit automaker continues to rebound from bankruptcy three years ago. GM reported a first quarter net income of $1 billion, fueled by U.S. vehicle sales.

The Oracle of Omaha also revealed Tuesday in a regulatory filing that he had increased his stake in Wal-Mart by nearly 8 million shares. His holdings in the retailer now amount to 46.7 million shares.

Buffett’s increased stake in Wal-Mart was made before allegations became public that Wal-Mart executives used bribes to speed the retailers’s expansion in Mexico. Buffett told shareholders earlier this month that the scandal did not alter his views on Wal-Mart’s value or its earning power.

Also revealed in the Securities and Exchange Commission filing was that the Berkshire conglomerate boosted its investments in DirecTV, Liberty Media, DaVita Inc. and the Bank of New York Mellon.

Berkshire Hathaway reduced its holdings in Intel, Kraft Foods, Dollar General, Procter & Gamble and Verisk Analytics.

Its stake in IBM, first reported in the fall of 2011, grew to 64.4 million shares.

Berkshire’s investments are closely watched and dissected by investors and analysts because of guru Buffett’s long and fabled success as an investor and manager.

Aside from investments, Berkshire owns some 80 subsidiaries ranging from clothing, furniture and jewelry companies to insurance and utility businesses.

Are there any cars being produced today, or anytime in the not-so-distant past, that have potential to INCREASE in value?

During the month of November/2011, we’ll attempt to answer this question, and identify specific vehicles we expect to increase in value over time. We’re also asking our readers to contribute as well. Your expertise will help us further assess a vehicle’s “investment potential!” Please send your suggestions to Admin@EveBlue.com. But remember, the “total number of vehicle’s produced” is only ONE aspect that contributes to a vehicles worth. And keep in mind, “it doesn’t matter how old it is. If it wasn’t special then, it’s not special now.”

So… does the past predict the future? Let’s take a look at the following Sales, and NON-SALES, in Exotic, European, and High-End Automobiles.

RM Auctions – 1972 Lamborghini Miura SV. Made from 1966 – 1972. #716 of approximately762 models made. 1972 Miura auctioned around 10/18/2011, Expected Selling Price: £750,000-£900,000. RESERVE PRICE NEVER MET. UNSOLD.

Gooding & Co. -1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Prototype SELLS for $16,390,000 at the Pebble Beach auction.

According to the “WSJ” and “Gooding Auction House,” the below vehicles are the most expensive in the world!

1985 — $2,788,513 a 1934 Alfa Romeo Tipo B Monoposto.

1985 — $3,424,490 for a 1957 Aston Martin DBR2.

1987 — $9,800,000 for a 1931 Bugatti Type 41 Royale

2008 — $10,894,400 for a 1961 Ferrari 250 SWB California Spyder

2009 — $12,402,500 for a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

2011 — $16,390,000 for a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Prototype

Kris Alingod – AHN News Contributor

Detroit, MI, United States (AHN) – Ford has reached a tentative labor contract with union workers in more than two dozen plants nationwide.

The agreement with the United Auto Workers, which still requires ratification from members, will add 12,000 new jobs in the company’s facilities, 5,750 more than what Ford previously committed to the union.

The additional jobs includes positions in China, Japan and Mexico that Ford will bring back into the United States.

The UAW was also able to raise entry-level wages to $19.28 over the term of the contract, which will end in 2015. In addition, the union won a $6,000 settlement bonus for workers with a year or more of seniority, and $5,000 for those with less than a year.

John Fleming, Ford’s executive vice president for global manufacturing and labor affairs, said in a statement the tentative contract is “fair to employees” and “improves [the company's] competitiveness in the U.S.”

“UAW members sacrificed when the company was struggling, and this agreement ensures that our members will now share in Ford’s prosperity,” said union vice president Jimmy Settles.

Ford pledged $16 billion in total domestic investments, $6.2 billion of which will be used to produce upgraded vehicles and components in plants nationwide by 2015.

The investment also includes $1.1 billion in Kansas City, which Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon called a “historic development for next-generation manufacturing in the state.”

Dearborn-based Ford, the only American automaker not to receive a government bailout, was the second of Detroit’s Big Three to reach an agreement with the United Auto Workers.

General Motors ended negotiations with the union mid-September. The union ratified the contract that resulted in those talks by a 2:1 ratio.

The union, which represents more than 41,000 hourly and salary workers at 27 domestic Ford plants, now turns its focus to Chrysler, which Fiat acquired last year as part of the carmaker’s government-sponsored reorganization.

Matthew Borghese – AHN News Contributor

Detroit, MI, United States (AHN) – Chrysler Group LLC has repaid the American and Canadian loans it received after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2009.

After being purchased by Italian carmaker Fiat and turning around lagging sales, on Tuesday Chrysler repaid $1.7 billion to Canada and $5.9 billion to the U.S. Treasury.

The announcement comes after Chrysler posted its best April sales since 2008. Chrysler enjoyed the 13th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains as April rose 37 percent over the same period a year ago.

The repayment is also good news for the Obama administration as the president looks to defend the controversial auto industry bail-out ahead of reelection in 2012.

“Chrysler’s repayment of its outstanding loans to the U.S. Treasury and American taxpayers marks a significant milestone for the turnaround of Chrysler and the countless communities and families who rely on the American auto industry,” Obama said Tuesday. “This announcement comes six years ahead of schedule and just two years after emerging from bankruptcy, allowing Chrysler to build on its progress and continue to grow as the economy recovers.”

“Supporting the American auto industry required making some tough decisions, but I was not willing to walk away from the workers at Chrysler and the communities that rely on this iconic American company. I said if Chrysler and all its stakeholders were willing to take the difficult steps necessary to become more competitive, America would stand by them, and we did,” Obama added.

The Treasury Department was also glad to hear the risky investment paid off. Former President George W. Bush issued a $13.4 billion bail-out loan for several American car makers in 2008. Yet, that year Chrysler saw sales fall 34.9 percent in just 12 months. After the bail-out, Obama pledged to guarantee the billions in loans Chrysler had received, even if the company completely failed.

“Because President Obama made the tough decision to stand behind and restructure the auto industry, America’s automakers are growing stronger, making new investments, and creating new jobs today throughout our nation’s industrial heartland,” U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said. “Chrysler’s early repayment of its outstanding [Troubled Asset Relief Program] loans is an important step in the turnaround of this company.”
